Update – A decline in new infections has been reported since february. The outbreak started in Gedaref in September 2023. Since then, infections have been reported across multiple localities in the states of Aj Jazirah, Blue Nile, Gedaref, Kassala, Khartoum, Northern, Red Sea, River Nile, Sennar, South Kordofan and White Nile. At least 280 fatalities have been reported.

Update – Supplementary immunisation activities are planned for in late February. This was triggered since Polio infection has been detected in Mashonaland West province in a person infected with ‘circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 2’ (cVDPV2) . In February 2024, an environmental sample in Harare tested positive for cVDPV2.
Currently, transmission appears to be sporadic.

Update – The outbreak started in Chegutu town (Mashonaland West province), now it has spread throughout the country affecting all 10 provinces. The most affected are Harare, Manicaland, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, and Masvingo. Authorities have imposed restrictions for public and social gatherings. A cholera vaccination campaign is also being rolled out.

Update – An increase in cholera cases has been reported in districts most affected by recent flooding in Somalia. Banadir, Bakool, Bay, Gedo, Hiran, Lower Juba, Middle Juba, Middle Shabelle and Lower Shabelle regions have been worst hit. The outbreak has been ongoing in drought-affected districts since 2022, and in Banadir region since 2017. Most infections have been in women and children under five years of age.
