Medilink International featured in Oman National TV’s programme Desert Gold

2/03/2026

Oman National TV’s programme Desert Gold recently visited the Khazzan field clinic, operated by Medilink International in partnership with bp, to explore what quality healthcare looks like in one of Oman’s most remote oil and gas concession areas.

The feature offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the infrastructure, people, and systems that support workforce health in environments where the nearest tertiary hospital may be several hours away. In such settings, healthcare is not an ancillary service. It is a core operational function, directly linked to safety, productivity, and continuity.

The Khazzan clinic was established following Medilink’s entry into the Omani market in 2023. Since then, it has evolved into a fully integrated medical facility serving a workforce of more than 2,000 personnel. The model combines primary care, occupational health, emergency response capability, and preventative health programmes within a single, structured framework aligned with international standards and client expectations.

The central theme of the Desert Gold episode is the importance of preparedness. In remote oil and gas operations, emergency response systems must be robust, rehearsed, and immediately deployable. The clinic’s infrastructure reflects this reality, with dedicated treatment areas, stabilisation capacity, and protocols designed to manage both routine consultations and acute incidents. Equipment, training, and communication systems are aligned to ensure rapid coordination with site leadership and external referral pathways when required.

Occupational health also plays a significant role. Beyond treating illness or injury, the clinic supports fitness-for-work assessments, health surveillance programmes, chronic disease management, and preventative screening initiatives. These services are critical in maintaining workforce resilience and meeting regulatory and governance requirements within the energy sector.

Another focus of the programme is in-country value and capability development. More than 70 percent of the Khazzan clinic team are Omani nationals, reflecting Medilink’s broader commitment to building strong local capacity wherever it operates. Recruitment, structured onboarding, and continuous professional development form part of a long-term approach to strengthening national healthcare skills within industrial settings.

Developing local medical teams is not simply a compliance objective. It is a strategic investment in sustainability. Clinicians who understand the cultural context, language, and national health landscape contribute to more effective care delivery and stronger stakeholder relationships. At Khazzan, this approach has enabled the clinic to function not only as a service provider but as an embedded partner within the concession’s operational ecosystem.

The visibility provided by Oman National TV reinforces the importance of structured healthcare systems in remote industries. Delivering care in desert environments requires more than a physical facility. It requires governance frameworks, clinical protocols, trained personnel, supply chain coordination, and alignment with client safety standards. These elements, often unseen by the wider public, are essential to maintaining safe and uninterrupted operations.

The Khazzan clinic reflects the principles that guide Medilink’s work globally: quality, preparedness, accountability, and partnership. From Africa to the Middle East and beyond, the organisation supports clients operating in complex environments where healthcare must be both clinically sound and operationally reliable.

The Desert Gold feature provides an opportunity to highlight not only the clinic’s facilities but the people and systems that sustain it. It demonstrates how structured, integrated healthcare contributes to workforce wellbeing and organisational performance in some of the world’s most demanding operational contexts.
